The Details
Erica & Curtis wanted to keep things classic. Lots of whites and greenery with touches of color here and there. This was perfectly complemented by Carolina Grove as the backdrop!
Pre-Ceremony Portraits
The details of their day really shown in their attire and floral choices. Something unique they opted for was to have the groom’s boutonniere actually be a pocket insert. This made putting it on before photos a breeze. They also chose to skip boutonnieres for the rest of the groomsmen. Genius!
The First Look
I always, always, always recommend a first look prior to the ceremony. It’s such a beautifully emotional moment that you get all to yourself. Erica and Curtis did this and we were able to front load all of their photos to before the ceremony. That way, after the ceremony, I just did their family portraits and let them go enjoy cocktail hour!
The Ceremony
May in North Carolina is often accompanied with pop-up thunderstorms in the later afternoon. A storm was looming just as Erica & Curtis’ ceremony was starting. Thankfully it held off. One thing I love about Carolina Grove is they have a gorgeous rain plan indoors just in case.
The Celebration
Their reception went off without a hitch and was so much fun! One thing I do with every wedding I photograph is bring a second shooter. That’s how we were able to also get these beautiful candid moments, like Curtis’ sweet mom crying during the first dance, or an aerial shot of the reception during dinner. Second shooters help add so much depth and emotion to your wedding photos by catching different POVs throughout the day. This is why I bring one to every wedding I do, no matter what.
The Exit
Erica and Curtis had the brilliant idea of re-using the glow sticks from their dance party for their exit as well!
